About the images:
The exhibited images all comes from collection I, 1936 – 1956 and from collection II, 1961 – 1962. The images are all taken with a Rolleiflex camera on rollfilm. The collection contains both positivs and negatives. The negatives are 6cmx6cm and 6cmx9cm.
Because of the challenging and different working conditions in the arctic environment Jette Bang shipped her films home to the photo bureau Jonals Co in Copenhagen. They developed her films and via telegraph provided her with corrections concerning cameraspeed, light etc.
Jonals Co was a creative and innovativ photocompany. The photos produced by the bureaus photographers was known by the effects with light/shadow, unorthodox angles, dynamic compositions and an incredible sharpness.
The photos Jette Bang produced in Greenland clearly contains these elements. In addition to these images contain an extreme intimicy and hypnotic fascination. The photos are fare more than a photoethnografic document.
